Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his future following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
The manager lamented familiar shortcomings from his team in their European loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period like this with results so bad.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
