Helicopter Spins Wildly into Palm Fronds at Well-Known California Coast
An aircraft hovering near a popular coastal shoreline abruptly started spinning out of control, eventually losing altitude and plunging into a line of palm fronds as beachgoers looked on.
Recordings posted online depict the chopper starting to spin over the shoreline then plunging towards the edge of the beach, where it ends up lodged among palms and a steps close to the Pacific Coast highway.
Emergency Response Information
Emergency responders said five persons were taken to hospital comprising a pair who were in the helicopter and were “safely pulled from the wreckage” after the incident on that day.
Three persons on the road were harmed. Details on their wounds were not immediately available.
The reason for the accident was not immediately released.
Planned Function
The department said the helicopter was associated with an annual “Cars and Copters” charity gathering scheduled for Sunday.
