Disturbing Footage Captures Moment Police Get Knifed in Ambush
One ranking policeman that leaped to the help of a fellow officer that was assaulted by a blade-wielder was granted the King's Commendation for Bravery.
Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a blade to the neck of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the officers and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver after a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in summer 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.
"Officer attacked," the constable was heard to say over his communication device.
Bodyworn and vehicle camera video made public by the police department showed Brown, who was dressed in black with a hood up, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade pointed forward.
He ran into the officer who tripped and went down to the street, after which Sgt Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the floor despite being repeatedly struck with the blade.
Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a clear shot, concluding the confrontation to an finish.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Please provide something on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sgt Ansell sustained multiple open wounds to his throat and further wounds to his limbs and body, while Sergeant Foster experienced slash wounds.
Authorities reported Sgt Foster used his bare hands to stem his fellow officer's bleeding prior to paramedics came.
The latest honor follows after the three officers won internal Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the regional Police Federation in spring 2024.
They further earned a North West Courage Honor in July 2024.
"The efforts of all three officers eventually rescued one another and resulted in no civilians experienced any injuries."
Brown received a sentence to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, as stated by authorities.
